December, 10, 2008 - INDIE ARTIST: THE CUCUMBERS: TOTAL VEGETILITY Now on Freeplay Indie, The Cucumbers' second set, "Total Vegetility," is weightier in motif but just as trip the light fantastic as "Where We Sleep Tonight." All caution is thrown to the wind on "Turn You In," which swivels and twirls into a psychedelic midnight beach party under a full moon, with layers of spooky theremin. The band traverses styles and decades on "My Birthday," basically an anti-folk take on an '80s new wave cover of a '60s sunshine pop song about greed. Dripping with ironic cynicism, this album could leaven any story involving the tragically disaffected post-youth. Check out more of "Total Vegetility" by clicking the link above.

Essential to any classic love scene, hear more of "War In My Mind" by clicking the link above
December, 5, 2008 - INDIE ARTIST: THE CUCUMBERS: WHERE WE SLEEP TONIGHT On the chirpy, infectious "Where We Sleep Tonight," new Indie band The Cucumbers can turn even a party of one into a hysterical carousal. The glossy, gripey "Gonna Make Him" is a 1980s big hair stupor, governed by a loose saxophone and dirty electric bass roots. The party ends wild and frenzied with "Take Me Back," buoyed by a lively organ and a staccato trumpet, and absorbing every beat with glut. This set is sure to rally any party scene in need of a boost. Check out more by clicking on the link above.
December, 5, 2008 - INDIE ARTIST: THREE AGAINST FOUR: HEY SPARKLE EYES If there never was such a thing as heady pop punk, meet Three Against Four, debuting in the Indie section with "Hey Sparkle Eyes," a genre-crossing, irresistibly catchy collection of confessionals about bummer breakups and struggles with apathy in adulthood. "Midwestern Psalm," a folksy reflection of adolescence, is like any jarring drive down Main Street, with brief detours through pure rock 'n roll and even funk. On the other hand, the neo-vintage "Boom Boom," drenched in reverb with 1980s excess and pulsing electric loops, is perfect for a rollicking, skeleton-free trip down memory lane. Frontman Brandon Patton's raspy, earthy tenor set against grinding power chords and multi-genre rhythms, is a fitting soundtrack for the universally familiar limbo between juvenility and adulthood.
December, 5, 2008 - INDIE ARTIST: KEINGZ RANSOM: CHANGE The crooning swagger of genuine R&B groove stylings come boldly to the forefront on "Change," the bangin' new set from Indie Artists Keingz Ransom. "You And Me Far Away" is a sexy R&B joint that evokes an escapist fantasy. Titillating synth beds lay heavily over a relaxed backbeat and smooth vocals. For a driving, freaky party groove, dig "Stomp With Me," which features big, ominous drums and an exotic flute riff pushes the groove steadily forward. Be sure to check out this hot collection of steamy downtempo R&B grooves from Keingz Ransom today on Freeplay Indie!
December, 4, 2008 - INDIE ARTIST: CRAIG ALAN STEVENS: SUBURBAN UNDERGROUND New Indie artist Craig Alan Stevens prefers to stay outside the box, as his aptly-titled multi-genre album "Suburban Underground" blurs stylistic borders and defies convention, but certainly not distinction. The raw, acoustic instrumentation ornamented with unusually seductive beatbox mixes constructs a vividly expressive sound that is equal parts classic and industrial. His rugged, smoky vocals further tenderize the torchy, folkie "More Time," evocative of a lake house holiday with red wine, candlelight, and a light drizzle of piano. And goth rock fans will find instant affinity with "No One," a cold, unnerving and anguished trip-hop track that darkens with every beat. It's not all gloom doom elsewhere, at least musically. Stevens toys with funk on "We Are All Underground" and folk on "Confidence To Live," all the while poring over the plight of suburbia. Do not miss "Suburban Underground," now on Freeplay Indie!
December, 3, 2008 - INDIE ARTIST: CHIEF ROCKAZ: BLESSING TO NIGHTMARE Metal returns to the Indie catalog with Chief Rockas' brazenly tormented "Blessing To Nightmare."  Surging with fury, and fraught with harrowing melodies and electronica adornment, this band is a prime pupil of the ever-transforming nu metal movement.  The sweeping "Follow Me Into The Night" is a nighttime speed race through a forbidding grove, complete with glitches chirping overhead like hungry bats.  Elsewhere, tone shifts sustain the nightmarish intrigue, though the grisly messages of despair remain.  "Circles Around You," a glossy pop-metal track heavy on reverb yet still thematically severe, proves frost can be just as dangerous as black ice.  Check out more from "Blessing To Nightmare" by clicking on the link above.
