This piano trio features the accompaniment of violin and cello and follows a basic sonata form. Much like Haydn's sonatas for solo piano, Haydn's piano trios are constructed from small, simple component parts and pieced together brilliantly so as to form a thematic structure. The violin and cello add weight and texture to the piano by doubling certain voices, but the piano is the point of focus throughout. This work is lighthearted and exciting, so don't miss out on Haydn's Trio Hob 19.
