This piano trio features the accompaniment of violin and cello and follows a basic sonata form. Much like Haydn's sonatas for solo piano, Haydn's piano trios are constructed from small, simple component parts and pieced together brilliantly so as to form a thematic structure. The violin and cello add weight and texture to the piano by doubling certain voices, but the piano is the point of focus throughout.
