Felix Mendelssohn is one of the early Romantic period's great masters and this beautiful sonata illustrates his harmonic and melodic creativity. Although Mendelssohn is viewed as a traditionalist, his lush chord voicings and graceful melodies are striking in their aural effect. This solo piano piece shows the composer's talent for creating a dramatic arc in his music, and the sonata form allows Mendelssohn to explore a wide range of the piano's emotive capabilities. Mendelssohn's Sonata In E Major 1 is an excellent piece by one of the most enduring composers of the Romantic era.
