Known as the Emperor Concerto, Beethoven's fifth concerto for piano and orchestra was also his last. He dedicated it to his pupil Archduke Rudolph, and the surprisingly delicate precision suggests an inherent desire to instill and securely fasten his immaculate rubric. The piano flutters throughout like a joyous ripple but with a specific aim. Impassioned strings fight the darkness recurrent in the maestro's work, and conclude with stirring and spectacular glee.
